Your first SPI project - taking the easy approach using SPIRE

Background

We have found that recent graduates as well as other more experienced staff can benefit immensely from attending our Graduate Training Programme. It is an intensive 6-month programme of 14 one-day workshops, usually running from the Autumn through to Spring.

The Programme aims to raise the level of professionalism among software professionals early in their career and is designed to round off any undergraduate skills previously gained. The programme emphasises 'real-world' issues, and material not generally covered, or appropriate, within traditional undergraduate courses, but which is essential for effective good practice in employment as a software professional.

We have also found it to be appropriate for other staff who wish to gain insights to best practice software engineering.

The Programme has been refined and delivered many times since 1999.

Nature of workshops

Each workshop is of one day's duration. The workshops are tailored to ensure that attendees:

• are exposed to best practice concepts
• appreciate the key issues, and
• have a clear understanding of the main specialist areas that impact software projects.

The Event

There will be a FREE briefing session at CSE. This briefing will give an overview of the Graduate Training Programme.

It will also give you the opportunity to clarify any questions you may have about the Programme.

By the end of the briefing attendees will:

• Have an overview of the Programme and the benefits it will provide to their Organisation and them personally if attending.
• Understand the structure of the Programme and the content of each of the 14 workshops.

The briefing is aimed at:

• Those who are invloved with software projects or who may be in the future and are considering uptake of a training programme to enhance their skill set.
• Technical Managers who are responsible for getting their staff up to speed with best practice software engineering.
• Training Managers who are responsible for selecting or recommending programmes for software staff.
