BackgroundWe have found that recent graduates as well as other more experienced staff can benefit immensely from attending our Graduate Training Programme. It is an intensive 6-month programme of 14 one-day workshops, usually running from the Autumn through to Spring.The Programme aims to raise the level of professionalism among software professionals early in their career and is designed to round off any undergraduate skills previously gained. The programme emphasises 'real-world' issues, and material not generally covered, or appropriate, within traditional undergraduate courses, but which is essential for effective good practice in employment as a software professional. We have also found it to be appropriate for other staff who wish to gain insights to best practice software engineering. The Programme has been refined and delivered many times since 1999.
