Background

The Unified Process Tutorial is a half-day event that is of interest to anyone interested in current thinking in Project Management. The aim of the tutorial is to provide delegates with an overview of the topic.

The Unified Process (a variant of this is known as the RUP - Rational Unified Process) is a common method for undertaking projects in a UML or object-oriented development.

This process provides a number of techniques that provide a structure that enables an iterative approach to project management

Who should attend?

This course is designed for people who want a overview in project management practices. It is applicable to project managers, team leaders or managers who have responsibility for software or other types of project.

The Event

The course provides an introduction to agile, iterative approaches and describes their characteristics. It also compares these approaches with traditional development. The general characteristics of the Unified Process are defined and the four phases – Inception, Elaboration, Construction and Transition are described. The tutorial also addresses the benefits of the Unified Process, and the types of project or organisation to which they are likely to be most applicable.

On completion of this course, delegates will be able to:

Understand the concepts of the Unified Process
Appreciate the key issues which should be addressed in the implementation & use of the approach
Describe the elements of the approach as a means to successfully managing a software project
Understand for which environments a particular approach is likely to be most applicable
