Background

ISO 9001 has been around for many years but has sometimes been given flack for being too bureaucratic and strangling organisations with paperwork. However, many organisations have shown that there are tangible benefits if a Quality System is implemented the correct way. It should be your Quality System designed to meet the individual needs of your unique organisation.

ISO have recently updated the standard and launched a new version ISO 9001: 2000 in December 2000. This new standard is much more focused on the needs of today's organisations, it places a much greater emphasis on understanding your Customers needs and expects organisations to implement continuous improvement.

But the most significant change relates to the removal of the previous 'Procedure based approach', which has been replaced by the 'Process Model approach'. Organisations can now use diagrams to show the key processes and their interaction, and as a result reduce the amount of text based procedures required. The new standard requires only 6 core procedures now.

There is also more concentration on 'records' which prove that you are doing the right things. These changes make implementation a lot less painful and for a Software Organisation the Process Model is very easy to understand as it relates very easily to the Software Life Cycle we are all used to.

If you are considering implementation of a Quality System and want to make sure that your approach will be effective (whether or not you want to go for ISO certification) this course will be of interest to you.

The Event

This 2-day session will explain what ISO 9001:2000 is and why you might consider going for it. The session explains the requirements of ISO 9001:2000 as they relate to Software Companies and takes you through the steps you need to take to set up your own internal Quality System.

We discuss the obstacles you are likely to come across during implementation and suggest ways of overcoming them. This includes how to implement Cultural Change in your organisation so that the Quality System is not just an individual dream but the whole companies' reality.

An important element of the course is to ensure that you can implement a system that will not only meet your organisations needs today, but will be flexible enough to evolve as your company grows.

The course will show you how to use internal audits to direct continuous improvement throughout the operation.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at Project Leaders, Quality Managers, Quality Team Members and any personnel interested in finding out how ISO 9001:2000 can be used to provide an effective structure for your business into the future.
