Background

There has been a major overhaul of the ISO 9001 standards so it now reflects what current software companies need and encourages them to use a Quality System to improve the way they operate. Because the emphasis is no longer manufacturing specific, and adopts a process model approach, software companies can now relate to the ISO principles far more easily.

Some of the key benefits to software companies include:

no bureaucracy, only 6 core procedures are now required.
the use of diagrams (process models) rather than text which makes it much more intuitive to use.
