Software engineering is “the application of a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the development, operation, and maintenance of software” see www.swebok.org

SOFTWARE PROCESS

The activities in the software project can be described as the software process. Each type of activity is given its own ‘process’ so that the overall project can be defined as a series of process areas. Standard process modelling can be employed, with notation supports such as IDEF. The maturity of the process can be assessed using frameworks such CMMI (rf. Software Engineering Institute) and SPICE (rf. ISO/IEC 15504). See Process Improvement Space
